Weird collaboration?

There has been collaborations both in music and in fashion that have been... well, questionable. But after hearing that stiletto-making Jimmy Choo is collaborating with UGGS, I basically, threw a fit. Okay, I lied. But I definitely "UGGED" at the thought (pun intended).
Why Jimmy WHYYY? You're too amazing.

Well look at them yourselves... click here or here to see the infamous Jimmy Choo & Ugg Collaboration. Would you buy a pair? Or two? Or three.. ?
Maybe this is the answer we've all been waiting for... maybe Uggs won't be so "ugly" anymore.

Who knows.
Who's going to collab next? Ed Hardy and Marc Jacobs? UGGG SICK. Leave your thoughts.
I want to hear what all you fashionistas think, so don't be lazy and write me a sentence or two.

I'M BAAAAAAACCCCCCCKKK

LIKE CROOKED CRACK!

FINALLY, a post from yours truly... ME! I have news. Splendid news. Fashion news. Musical news. News about news. Tell your friends, your family, your neighbour... your dog.

Get ready to be amazed.

I think I hyped it up enough, what do you think?

late registration

SO, i'm late.
That is getting on the bandwagon of polyvore obsession..

Here's my first look:

If you have a polyvore account, let me know!

To Splurge or Not to Splurge..

Keeping up with the trends of today can be a very expensive habit and sometimes the new trendy item of the week can be worth three pay cheques. It's just not worth it, especially with so many DIY blogs out there, teaching us how to achieve trendy looks for less by simply making them. Unfortunately, not everything can be made by our worker hands, therefore spending is the only option.

Worth the Splurge:

(1) BOOTS
Splurging on a pair of boots means that they will last longer than a pair you would get from, let's say, FOREVER 21 or URBAN BEHAVIOUR. I can say this with confidence because I myself have gone through many "cheap" pair of boots, that have sadly made their debut in the garbage dump. With all the pairs I have bought (a "cheap" pair costs about $30-$40) I could have purchased a really expensive pair. Learn from my mistake and invest on a good boot or two or three. I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Let's do the math here:
A pair of boots from Urban Behaviour/Urban Planet/Forever 21.. = $29.99 or $39.99
2 pairs of ankle boots x $29.99 = $59.98
2 pairs of boots x $39.99 = $79.98
1 pair of ankle boots and 1 pair of 'normal' boots = $69.98

If you purchase two pairs in the beginning of winter and another in the middle of the winter.. you'd have spent a total of about $136.oo. You're better off buying boots that cost a bit more that you can rely on.

Frye Boot, $398

So... what kind of boot is a "good investment"? Good question. This boot should be practical and wearable. When looking for a perfect pair, imagine yourself in the desired boots in jeans or a dress. Can you see yourself wearing them at school, work or for drinks?
If you're still underestimating a pair, go in on two different days: one day wear your favourite jeans, shirt, etc... a typical outfit of yours. Then on the other day, wear leggings or a dress with tights. This should assist you in finding out if the boots are compatible with your clothing.

These boots are expensive for a reason, they are meant to last longer than a pair you bought for twenty bucks, so take care of your boots. Make sure to put protector on them before wearing them out. (If you're really keen about protecting your shoes, spray protector on it every time you go out.)

(2) BAG
... featuring MATT & NAT
This is one of those debatable items.. how much is too much and how little is too little? A good bag should cost you a few dollar signs, that is if you want it to last you a long time and if you plan to use it on a regular basis. Whereas, a bag that you intend to use maybe once or twice, shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg. I love the bags that Matt & Nat make - they are fashionable, practical, and inexpensive... considering how long these bags can last. A good bag is going to cost you a little bit more money because it's simply better made.
However, it is not necessary to buy a bag that costs you thousands and thousands of dollars. These bags are NOT practical. Think about it: would you really want to use your wonderful $2000 [insert brand name here] everyday? It'd get so worn out and lose it's wonderfulness in no time. If you truly want a good bag, expect to pay a couple of hundred dollars, but don't be afraid to say no to anything more. (UNLESS, it's a cute vintage Chanel bag...)

If you are going to splurge on bag, make sure it is one that you will love for years to come! (Not just for right now.)

Left: Tundra - Stellar, $225; Right: Orbital - Perforated, $150

Left: Laroux - Nappa, $185; Right: Lindstrom - Nappa, $265

If you are like me and attend school, you might want to opt for a backpack (those heavy anthropology and sociology textbooks can be a bit heavy for a hand or shoulder bag..). Matt & Nat have a wonderful backpack for the fashionable school-goer. The backpack comes in magenta, white, and black. I'm completely in love with this magenta one. It's pink. It's studded. It screams "cool". What's not to love?!

Odyssey - Nappa, $225

(3) JEANS
A good pair of jeans will cost you $60.00 - $175 or more, depending on the brand and the fit that you are looking for. Anything more than $250 for a pair of jeans.. is just a bit ridiculous, so use your own discretion when purchasing a pair of jeans.

Left: William Rast, Tori Legging, $175; Center: 7 For All Mankind, The Skinny in Worn Indigo, $149; Right: William Rast, Jerri Ultraskinny, $195

If you are planning to splurge on a pair of jeans, don't settle for just any. TRY! TRY! TRY. Also, you are your best critic, so if you disagree with the salesperson, don't be afraid to let them know. Most of the time, the salesperson just wants to make a good sale so you could end up buying a pair that you're totally not 100% in love with.

So Not Worth the Splurge:

- Trendy (couture) items: These items aren't here to stay. Think Mcqueen's Armadillo heels or Balenciaga Lego heels. These items, no doubt, make a statement but once they are out of style, they will forever stay in your closet (or until fashion decides to recycle itself again.)
- Ripped/ distressed denim: Why pay $150 dollars for a pair of jeans that have been destroyed, when you can do it yourself? The wonderful thing about the internet is that there are so many online tutorials on how to make your own distressed denim. All you need to do is grab a pair of your really old jeans and voila, you have your own pair of distressed denim.
- Leggings: If you want a good pair of leggings that will last you sometime, expect to pay a bit more but do not, i repeat, do not spend anything more than $30!

Ripped leggings, distressed denim, and studded shoes can easily be made via DIY projects; and spending anything more than $50 on these items are simply ridiculous.

So, what say you? What was your best investment and worst investment? Feel free to comment!

IT'S STARTING TO FEEL A LOT LIKE..

SUMMER, SWEET OH, SUMMER!

It's that time of year again where winter knits and dark hues retire to the back-end of the closet and the soft linens and pastel colors make a fresh appearance.

Here are my top 5 summer must-haves, you know, the things every girl should have in order to keep fresh- supaaa fresh- even in the hottest of hot weather!

Dresses ++ Perfect for a day at the park, a family gathering, or a stroll at your favorite shopping boulevard - dresses are the answer to simple femininity. They look great with almost* any type of shoe - sandals, flats, boots, and even tennis shoes, for a more casual look.

*Do use your own discretion with this!

Rompers/ One-Piece++ If sweats are to a lazy day, then rompers are the equivalent but without the bulk and, a bit more fashion-forward (okay, okay.. a LOT MORE). Rompers are the answer to those days where you have no idea what to wear or simply in a rush. They can be played up or down according to the occasion. Every girl should have one in their wardrobe.

Note: PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, refrain from buying terry-clothed rompers. These only work if you live on a beach or at least, 5 minutes away from one. They just look like you are either a.) ready to take a bath or b.) just got out of one.

Shorts ++ It's 30+ weather and well, who really wants to wear jeans (or long pants for that matter? Shorts are the summer's answer to looking fresh and keeping cool. Denim shorts are perfect for those days when it's way too hot to wear jeans.

denim jacket++ i love denim jackets. End of story.

Sunglasses ++ IS A MUST! Pretty much explanatory... no need to explain this one, do I?

Random

This is so totally irrelevant to my blog, but at the same time it has so much relevance, oh the irony!

i love art that depict triangles; are in black and white and ultimately, eerie, and this photo by Hannah Davis is simply wonderful. If you don't like, well we can agree to disagree.

Check her out because she's worth it.

THEEEYY'RRREEEE BAAAAAAAACCCCKK!

Hey guys! Sorry for the ever so late posting. With school in its fourth week, i've been caught up with it and work. BUT, i should not make excuses, i should be posting despite of it all... so let's get to it then.

That is polaroid cameras, not television people. (If you do not understand this reference, i suggest you watch 'the Poltergeist' now, before i make any other references to this movie; and in the future, it is greatly suggested that you catch up on pop culture, to save you from embarrassment. Much love!)

ANYWAY, polaroid is coming out with the POLAROID PIC 1000 available to consumers later this year. This camera will come in a variety of colours and will use Polaroid Color 600 Instant Film to create the brand's classic white border photos. This film can be used on classic polaroid styles as well as the new ones.

Remember Joycams back in early 2000? I just love these little guys. They worked the same way as the classic polaroid cameras - in the sense that you had instant photos with the white border - but the film were smaller in size. Just like the old polaroid cameras, they discontinued making them as well as film for it. This totally sucks considering my camera is in perfect condition and in perfect working-order however i cannot use it anymore. Maybe i should write an email to the Polaroid company suggesting that they should start selling these little guys again.

What do you think of the polaroid camera coming back? Do you prefer digital or film? Is there something from your beloved childhood or from the past that you hope makes a comeback?
Please feel free to leave a comment or your opinions.

ccccccccheeeck it out, wwwhat it's all about?

HEY GUYS !

As i was browsing the net, i came across this wonderful little site, No One, from the U.K. It's everything i ever wanted from an online store. It's nifty, it's gifty, and cool.

If you like body parts, crazy geometric prints, and love colour, this store is for you.

I'm not going to post any photos up... go see it for yourselves. And like me, fall in love.

SO, "what CHU WAITIN' FOR ? TAKE A CHANCE YOU STUPID ... " - in the words of Gwen Stefani. HAHAHA !

Toodles !

I Wanna Be Just Like...

ZOOEY DESCHANEL

Everything this 5''6 girl touches is golden. She's married to Benjamin Gibbard (maybe you've heard of him, he's in a small band.. Death Cab For Cutie?). She sings. She acts. But, the main reason i admire this actress/songstress is for her impeccable sense of style.

When it comes to movies, Zooey is a bit of an unconventionalHollywood starlet, shunning big budget films for obscure ones; which transfers unto her wardrobe. Zooey, unlike her fellow peers, dresses quirky and youthful but in retrospect, reflects a sense of old hollywood femininity.

I can bet your bottom dollar that if Zooey came to Edmonton, she'd be checking out Nokomis.

Three Cheers To Wellies

As someone who hates Uggs with a passion, i was in desperate need of a boot that i could wear 'casually' or for those 'lazy Sunday' days. However, i refused to buy Uggs, Emu, and the like. You couldn't even pay me a million dollars to wear 'em, i'm that devoted. And so, i thought wellingtons, "rain boots" would be perfect for such days. You can pair 'em with jeans, dresses, leggings or even sweats (don't sweat, haha, i wouldn't be seen out in sweats ever!).

I love, love, love, love wellingtons. They're like uggs but a 106995079501969790 times better. Actually, sorry, wellies ARE NOT at all like uggs. I apologize, forgive me?
I recently just bought two pairs of wellies, a short black pair and a taller green pair with a buckle, and i hope to purchase a pair by the well known wellington brand, Hunter.

You're probably wondering how to wear rain boots? Let me ask you a question: How do you wear Ugg boots? You can wear these bad boys any way imaginable that you can wear those precious ugg boots but more. Can you wear a summer dress with ugg boots and still be considered fashionable? Yes? Well, i'm going to have to disagree unless proven otherwise. Ugg boots are too casual and rain boots add a whole new level to an outfit. They are very easy to wear, just follow these steps, it's as easy as 123 and ABC, yo!

1. Wellingtons look best with skinnies, dark denim or black denim. Or leggings. DO NOT, i repeat, DO NOT wear your wellies with wide leg, baggy pants. You will look very sloppy. The reason why wellingtons look best with skinnies/leggings is because the tops of the boot are made floppy and wide, so to create a narrow line down th
e leg, skinnies best give off this look.
2. The wash of the jean and the boots should match somewhat. If you want to rock a pair of bright wellies, dark denim works well. Solid dark colours (forest green/black) look good with lighter denim. AVOID pairing acid wash denim with patterned rain boots - it'll be sartorial overkill.

It's not applicable here but rain boots are perfect to wear to music festivals. You still want to look cute right, in case you run into Ezra Koenig or Fabrizio Moretti. Well don't worry, you can still look good in a dress and your favourite pair of wellies. If anything, it'll catch the eye of your favourite Strokes boy.

How to Pull off This Look:
A billowy dress in a soft floral print is perfect to offset the chunkiness of the boot. Fashion is all about contrasts baby. Try it, you'll love it.

You can wear your wellies with shorts too. Like so:

Wear them with or without tights, a basic tee or graphic tee, and your set. Perfect for those muddy summer music festivals.

Wellies are so versatile. These little booties can be worn in the summer, winter, spring and fall. Get a pair or two, you won't regret it. Trust me.

Top: Sperry Top-Sider, Gravity Pope, $80
Bottom: Hunter Classic Wellington, Gravity Pope, $150

(If you don't want to fork big bucks for a pair - Hunter rain boots can be a bit expensive for rubber shoes - check out Payless, Army & Navy, or Wal-Mart for a pair. These stores tend to carry these boots all year round in several colours and prints. )

How About You..

DIY
(Do It Yourself)

The holidays are over, and for some of you that means going back to school; and for others it means going back to a 'boring' way of life.
DIY projects are great for both the school-goers and the home-stayers. DIY projects saves you money (we all know, that going back to school means giving up those $200 jeans) but keeps you still looking up to par with the current trends; and secondly, it keeps the bored entertained.

However, I want to stress to you all, that i'm NOT trying to create my own DIY blog. I lack the time and, unfortunately, creativity to come up with my own projects, but there are many blogs out there specifically for DIY projects and I encourage you all to visit them for more ideas.

Here are some of my favorites DIY projects that do not take much effort or time:

(1) Distressed denim

I'm a huge fan of this look - especially when i'm having one of those 'plain jane' days, but have too much pride to wear sweats out - distressed jeans come in handy. Pair it with a basic tee/graphic tee, flats, and a cardigan and your set. However, a good pair of distressed jeans can be ridiculously priced for denim that looks like it's been through hell. So if you're budget savvy like me, or at least try to be, DIY distressed denim is perfect for you.

* If you're worried about wrecking one of your favourite jeans, try the following steps on an old pair of jeans you plan to give away or go to your local thrift store and buy a cheap pair (you'll be paying $6 or less).

Materials needed:
- jeans
- piece of white chalk
- sandpaper
- cheese grater/metal nail file
- Scissors
- Pen knife/cutter

Step 1: Mark any of the distressed looks you want to make on your jeans with chalk. For example, if you want a hole in the knee, draw a circle or line on the designated knee area or draw lines on pant creases.
Step 2: Place a block of wood/container/rock (item must be hard and stable) under the area you want to distress. With the cheese grater (hand held is best) rub against the area of denim you would like to distress. A gentle rub causes a more mild distress; a longer and more vigorous rub would cause holes and tears.
Step 3: Instead of doing step 2, you can make a small cut on the area you want to distress and then with the pen knife or steak knife fray along
the edges of cut.
Step 4: With the sandpaper, rub around pockets, knees, hemlines, etc. for a more worn out look.
Step 5: To finalize your look, wash your reworked denim for the final touch.

More ideas:
If you dampen a sponge with bleach and rub it on your jeans you can get a more 'bleached out' look. (See below photo)

It's a really simple task when done, but if my instructions are unclear or you need a visual, I have a found a website that does a wonderful job of showing how to create distressed jeans. Click here for the five-minute denim tutorial.

(2) Studs

If you haven't yet noticed, studs are in. They are everywhere - from jackets to bags to even shoes. If you're fashion savvy but do not have the benjamins to convey the look, you can go to any craft store and buy a shitload of studs or hardware for cheap. All you need is a glue gun and studs and a garment - from then on, it's just you and the glue gun. It's a very simple task - basically a kindergarden arts and crafts but more fashionable.

One of my favorite looks is putting studs/hardware on a jacket. For example, put studs on a lapel of a blazer for emphasis.

Gentlemen, this look isn't just for girls. Revamp your clothing with studs.

Remember to be tasteful.. you don't want to end up looking like this... unless that is the look you want to achieve.

Don't get me wrong, Ms. Olsen pulls this off nicely.

GUYS, don't be afraid of the thrift/second hand store. It can literally become your best friend. I just recently purchased a leather bag and black men's blazer that i hope to revamp, which cost me a total of ten dollars. Sure, fashion is fun and sure it's great to splurge but everyday folk don't have the money to purchase everything that is in and so these stores (second hand stores) help us create fashionable looks for less.

Check back for my "How to Shop Vintage" guide, coming up soon.

Stay Classy.
